1. What is a Dental Crown?
When you have a chipped, damaged or misshapen tooth, Dr. Janet K. Song and Dr. Tran will often suggest a dental crown to protect and maintain an otherwise healthy tooth. A crown is sometimes referred to as a “cap” and can also hold a dental bridge in place.
Traditionally, a crown requires two appointments, but we offer same-day dental crowns using CEREC® crown technology.
2. What is CEREC Technology?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. The CEREC CAD/CAM machine scans your mouth with an intraoral camera. We then create a 3D model of the tooth in question on the computer. The dental crown is then designed and promptly made in our dental practice by Dr. Song and then fitted directly onto your tooth. No need to come back for a follow-up appointment!
3. What is a Crown Made From?
Traditional crowns are usually made from metal, porcelain, resin, or ceramic. CEREC crowns are milled from a ceramic block right in our dental practice in Fairfax City.
4. What are the Benefits of a CEREC Crown in One Day?
No need for uncomfortable and messy tooth impressions, it’s all done via the CEREC scanner
Traditional crowns require at least two appointments, usually two weeks apart instead of just one appointment with CEREC same-day crowns
No need for a temporary ill-fitting crown between appointments that tend to be uncomfortable
You don’t have to take additional time off work or from your busy life for an additional appointment
5. What Does a CEREC Dental Crown Look Like?
CEREC same-day crowns are made from ceramic rather than metal so they tend to have a more natural appearance as they are created to match the tooth and surrounding teeth. People may not even notice you have a crown!
6. How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?
Ceramic crowns are strong, making them last around 10-15 years if they are looked after with proper oral care.
